Applying for your International Driving Permit (IDP) online is designed to be quick and straightforward, no matter which province or territory you’re applying from. Here’s exactly what to expect, from start to finish.
Step 1: Choose Your Package
Start by selecting the option that best fits your travel plans on our pricing page: a digital-only IDP valid for 3 years, or a print-and-digital bundle valid for either 1 or 3 years, all priced in Canadian dollars. If you’re travelling soon, the digital-only option gets you a usable copy the fastest.
Step 2: Fill in Your Details
Next, complete the short application form with your personal information, including your name, date of birth, and province or territory of residence, exactly as they appear on your current Canadian driver’s licence.
Step 3: Upload Your Photo and Licence
You’ll be asked to upload a clear photo of yourself (facing forward, no hat) and a photo or scan of your current, valid Canadian driver’s licence. You’ll also be able to provide a digital signature directly on the form using your mouse or finger.

Step 4: Shipping and Payment
If you’ve chosen a print-and-digital package, enter your shipping address and select a delivery speed — standard, tracked, or expedited shipping from Canada to your destination. Then complete your payment securely in CAD using a credit or debit card, PayPal, or another available method.
Step 5: Receive Your Documents
Digital documents are typically prepared and emailed to you within a couple of hours of submitting a complete application. If you ordered a printed booklet and ID card, these are shipped according to the delivery option you selected at checkout.
What to Do if Something’s Missing
If any part of your application is incomplete — for example, an unclear photo or a licence that’s hard to read — our team may follow up by email to request a clearer copy before your documents can be finalized. Double-checking your uploads before submitting helps avoid delays.
After You Receive Your IDP
Keep your IDP together with your original Canadian driver’s licence and passport whenever you travel — an IDP is a translation aid and is not valid on its own. For details on how IDPs are typically used abroad, see our guide on what a Digital IDP is, or browse our list of recognized countries.
Ready to Begin?
Start your application whenever you’re ready — most Canadian applicants complete the entire process in under ten minutes.
